About [Edit]
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the only independent 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers. Since 1967, our goal has been to improve water quality by reducing pollution. Our motto, Save the Bay, has been the battle cry for that goal.
CBF is supported by more than 146,000 active members and has a staff of approximately 165 full-time employees. More than 90 percent of CBF's $20.6 million annual budget is privately raised.
CBF's headquarters is in Annapolis, MD, and has state offices in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. CBF also operates 15 environmental education programs.
Leadership
Information about CBF's leadership, board of directors, and CBF's strategic plan.
CBF's staff includes scientists, policy experts, attorneys, educators, and grassroots organizers. They pursue our goal through environmental advocacy, litigation, environmental education, strategic communications, and habitat restoration throughout the Bay watershed. We inform and engage the public, the private sector, elected officials, and government employees to demand that the tough political decisions and adequate public and private investments be made to save the Bay.
Since being created in 1967, we have achieved significant milestones to arrest the Bay system's decline and to begin to restore its health. From the landmark EPA study of the Chesapeake Bay in the 1970s to the first interstate Chesapeake Bay Agreement in 1983 to Maryland's historic sewage treatment bond bill in the 2004 and Virginia’s comparable legislative commitment in 2005, CBF has been saving the Bay.
