Promotes sustainable participatory rural development, women's empowerment, health care, political participation, freedom from violence and Dalit development through community development centres set up in 60 villages; has set up a Training Resource Centre.

The two groups that form the focus of SAHAYOG's attention--
Women- the perennial second class citizens - exploited even more in the hills of U.P. where she is the main agricultural and domestic worker
Dalits-the community that has been cast outside the mainstreasn of Indian society as untouchable- dispossessed in thier own lands in the U.P. hills
Our Work ares--
Uttar Pradesh--one of the most backward states in the country - home to a sixth of the country's one billion people
Uttarakhand-- the once verdant and snow capped mountainous land of the Himalayas in U.P.--now ravaged by human greed, where human life is a constant struggle against the harsh physical conditions- the rocky terrain, the winter snows, the monsoon landslides and the occasional earthquakes

The Community Development Centre CDC
- Works directly with the weakest in the community in fifty mountain villagees in the Uttarakhand region of Uttar Pradesh
- Assisting in the process of Women's Empowerment in twenty five villages through women's organisations ..economic programmes..reproductive health programmes..adult literacy..assisting single women..providing fora..
- Helping dalits in twenty five villages in their quest for socio-economic development and self respect ..through community organisation..community planning..education programmes..health programmes..economic programmes..

SAHAYOG is an equal opportunity organisation with more than fifty percent of functionaries being women, even at the decision making levels
SAHAYOG believes that its own organisation culture should reflect the values --justice, opportunity, unity, openness , and capacity building
The SAHAYOG family includes forty full time paid workers including - gender specialists and activists, public health specialists and activists, researchers, community organisers, trainers, and a host of other committed workers
