About [Edit]
The North Hills Landscape Committee carries out relandscaping and reforestation projects in the area affected by the October, 1991, firestorm and develops new public gardens, including fire resistant demonstration gardens. NHLC is affiliated with the California ReLeaf tree-planting network. The San Francisco Foundation serves as the fiscal agent for tax-deductible donations to support the Committee's projects. NHLC serves as a catalyst in the Hiller Highlands community in vegetation management efforts on public lands and is currently developing gardens with CalTrans, the City of Oakland and the Oakland Unified School District. It is developing an Educational Exhibit Center with the City of Oakland as part of the Gateways Garden Project to help in educating the public regarding the dangers of fire, the importance of vegetation management and landscaping for fire safety.
