About  [Edit]

The mission of ACAT is to raise awareness through research and documentation that denounce and report torture, cruel and inhuman treatment, and extra-legal executions, by all means possible, including publicly and in private, on the national and international level, in order to achieve their abolition. We are also committed to giving integral attention (legal, medical, psychological, social and spiritual) to survivors of torture, their families and communities affected by severe human rights violations, as well as human rights defenders, regardless of gender, beliefs, ideology or social status. Target groups are survivors of torture, their families and communities (mainly in Mexico City and the States of Oaxaca and Guerrero), cases of forced disappearances and extra-judicial executions. ACAT's primary objectives are:

* Prevention, defence and integral rehabilitation of cases and situations of torture.

* Treatment for survivors and their families.

* Legal consultancy and defence at the national and international level.

* Training of medical, mental health and legal professionals.

* Research into, and documentation of, torture in Mexico.

* Lobbying the Government for the prevention of torture.

* Collaboration with churches and the general public.

* Promotion of, and training in, human rights.
