On Earth Day 1997, the St Lawrence County Environmental Management Council convened a group of concerned citizens and interested organizations to discuss the deteriorating conditions of the summit facilities and the feasibility of undertaking a restoration project.



With the support of St. Lawrence County, the Town of Piercefield, the DEC, the Adirondack Mountain Club, the Architectural Heritage and others, the "Friends of Mt Arab" was formed.



The Vision of the Friends of Mount Arab:

- Restore the fire tower and observer cabin to a safe and useful condition.

- Develop an interpretive program on the human and natural history of the locale.

- Improve and expand summit campsites.

- Provide continual maintenance and upkeep of trail and summit facilities.

- Encourage public support for and enjoyment of Mt Arab recreational site
