About [Edit]
We believe children have the right to grow up in a secure, safe, family environment, free from poverty and exploitation.
EveryChild is an international development charity. We protect the most vulnerable and excluded children and give them the chance to grow up in loving families with a safe and secure future.
Our projects give children the tools they need to shape their own futures. In order to do this we listen to what the communities tell us, and design each project to meet their specific needs.
Thailand:
key issues:
- Poverty and unemployment
- Child exploitation and trafficking
- Poor access to basic services, e.g. healthcare and education
- Discrimination (marginalised groups/gender)
- HIV/AIDS
- Environmental degradation and pollution
EveryChild's main focus:
- Education
- Childhood/community development
- HIV/AIDS
- Child exploitation/trafficking
EveryChild works in Thailand in partnership with the Bangkok Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), which has been operational in Thailand since 1932. EveryChild supports three of YMCA’s projects, the Bangkok YMCA Northern Child Project in Phayao province, northern Thailand, the Urban Poor Communities Development Project in Bangkok and a three year HIV/AIDS project.
The Urban Poor Communities Development project focuses on children and young people who live in a number of squatter settlements and new resettlement areas. High levels of unemployment, debt, low levels of literacy and education, poor sanitation and overcrowding trap these communities in a cycle of poverty. The project aims to improve the quality of life of children and young people in the areas of education, life skills, health and sanitation and promote and strengthen community organisations to contribute to the development of the child and the community.
