Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Mission Statement
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity partners with God and all members of our community in providing simple, affordable housing through building and renovation, thereby enabling families to help themselves and strengthen their communities.
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity not only enables people to become self-sufficient homeowners, but the organization renovates houses that would likely become havens for criminal activity. Our renovations and new construction help to revitalize area neighborhoods.
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity also obtains houses through donations or by purchases from individuals, estates, and government entities or builds new houses from the ground up. Renovation and construction are completed primarily by volunteers and family partners working to complete their required "sweat equity" hours. Our organization receives no tax dollars for operation or building costs.
