The Continental Social Alliance [ASC] is a forum of organizations and progressive social movements of the Américas, created to interchange information, to define strategies and to promote joint operations, all it directed to the search of a model of alternative and democratic development, that benefits our towns. The ASC is a space opened to the organizations and movements interested in changing the policies of integration at hemisférico level and in promoting social justice in the Américas.
The initiative to create the ASC arose from the forum of the civil society made in May of 1997 in Belo Horizon, Brazil, of parallel form to a meeting of ministers of commerce of the hemisphere, carried out as well within the framework of the negotiations of the Area of Free Commerce of Américas [ALCA].
The Continental Social Alliance was constituted formally in April of 1999, in a meeting held in San jOse, Costa Rica, in which the mission, the objectives and the structure of the new space of citizen joint in the hemisphere were defined.
Our objectives
To fortify to the civil society in the countries of the Américas.
To be recognized like a dynamic movement that can mobilize to its members and where the different points of view and positions of the civil society can be seen represented.
To impel actions from common strategies, to the time that is respected the diversity.
To support and to fortify the efforts of different social sectors, at national and regional level.
To promote the respect of the basic standards approved by the Organization the International of Trabajo [OIT].
To promote the respect to all the rights recognized in the diverse effective international instruments.
