About [Edit]
Friends of the Dunes...
...is dedicated to conserving the natural diversity of coastal bay and dune environments through community supported education and stewardship programs.
Through our education programs we:
* educate the community on the values of coastal dune environments by providing interpretive walks, a quarterly newsletter and displays at local fairs and special events
* cultivate in children an appreciation and understanding of coastal dune environments through classroom instruction and diverse learning experiences in the field
* maintain and continually enhance a volunteer docent program by offering training on the most current topics and issues pertaining to dune ecology, biodiversity, conservation, interpretation techniques, restoration and land management
Through our stewardship actions we;
* involve the community volunteers in actively working to restore coastal dune habitats
* create cooperative relations with coastal land owners, conservation organizations, academic institutions and management agencies to promote the implementation and development of ecologically sound management practices
* serve as a land trust, willing to receive donations of coastal properties and engage in the acquisition of property from willing sellers in order to assure that land use is consistent with the ecological values of coastal dune systems
* advocate for coastal land use that is consistent with the ecological values of native coastal dune systems
