Our chapter was started in March 2003, and consists mostly of engineering students at Stanford University. Of course, everyone is welcome to get involved.
Vision
ESW is a national nonprofit organization with a network of professionals and students working to reduce poverty and improve global sustainability
o Includes over twenty-one campus chapters (e.g. California Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, MIT, Northwestern, UC Berkeley, and UT-Austin, among others)
o Twenty-nine new campus chapters pending
* ESW-Stanford is a consortium of undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying engineering skills to address the challenges of developing communities in sustainable and culturally-sensitive ways. We welcome students from all disciplines and backgrounds. Concretely, we:
o Increase awareness of issues in developing countries by hosting experienced speakers
o Utilize class time to solve design problems given by NGOs and other clients
o Provide opportunities for practical experience through internships
* On campus, we work closely with several organizations and departments. We are fortunate to have the support of many faculty and staff. These include the following institutions:
o School of Engineering
o Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
o Department of Mechanical Engineering
o Haas Center for Public Service
o Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Environment and Resources (IPER)
o Stanford Institute for the Environment (SIE)
o Center for Environmental Science and Policy
o Office of the President
