About  [Edit]

The South Florida Community Development Coalition is an association of more than 70 community-based organizations and their partners working to reverse the downward social and economic spiral in South Florida's low income neighborhoods.

"Community-based Economic Development" is a strategy for the revitalization of low income neighborhoods. It is based on one very important underlying assumption . . . a primary cause of the downward spiral in these communities has been the almost complete absence of meaningful new investments.

Typically a neighborhood will form a nonprofit tax-exempt corporation that would then engage in venture development activity.

These types of neighborhood based corporations that are often referred to as "CDCs". The strategy has been most successful in those localities where true public/private partnerships have emerged with participation by government, banks, the private sector, churches, and foundations.
