About  [Edit]

AHC Inc. is a private, nonprofit developer of low- and moderate-income housing. The mission of AHC is twofold: to preserve the supply of affordable housing in the mid-Atlantic region, especially Northern Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland; and to ensure that properties developed or owned by AHC enhance the quality of life in the neighborhoods where they are located. The organization is divided into two major divisions: homeownership and multifamily rental housing.

AHC owns and operates 21 multifamily rental communities with 2,683 apartments, including 2,034 that are affordable to more than 5,000 low- or moderate-income residents. Our homeownership programs have helped more than 1,000 families rehabilitate and repair their aging homes, assisted 300 families in buying their first home, and built more than 50 new homes for low- and moderate-income families.

AHC's Resident Services Program offers a variety of supportive programs on-site at six community centers, including computer centers with classes; pre-school, after-school and tutoring/mentoring programs for children and teens; adult classes and workshops; and social activities and exercise programs for seniors. This program serves more than 1,800 residents annually.

Hardworking low- and moderate-income workers including service people, teachers, police officers, and immigrants from many lands struggle to afford the skyrocketing cost of housing in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan region. Now in its 29th year, AHC dedicates its efforts to ensuring quality affordable homes for all our neighbors
