About [Edit]
The main aims of the Otway Foundation are:
Conservation and protection of fauna and flora
Environmental education and information
Development of sustainable methods for commercial use of natural resources
The three Puñihuil islets located on the Pacific coast of the Chileoé island in Chile form a unique ecosystem where Magellan and Humboldt Penguins jointly nest. Humboldt Penguins are an endangered species.
For this reason, the Otway Foundation is carrying out an education and information campaign. For this reason guided Zodiac boat tours around the Puñihuil islets are being offered. This gives tourists the chance to experience this species in its natural habitat, whilst learning about its life and survival without disturbing them or destroying their habitat. Also the Otway Foundation observes the islets and makes sure that nobody visits them. This caused an increase of the penguin population within the last few years.
