The objectives of the Southwestern Herpetologists Society are stated in its Constitution:
-To enhance the education of the members and the general public concerning the roles of amphibians and reptiles in the natural world.
-To promote the conservation of reptiles and amphibians in particular, as well as all wildlife in general.
-To provide information for the closer cooperation between amateur and professional herpetologists, that they may work together for the promotion of the science of herpetology.
Programs and Services
Southwestern Herpetologists Society offers many programs and services for its members and for the general public, including:
Educational programs for schools, nature centers, community faires and other public places
Workshops and research on herpetology, natural history, reptile and amphibian husbandry and medicine, ecology and many other topics
Reptile and amphibian rescue and adoptions for our members
Information regarding laws and other government actions affecting reptiles and amphibians and the environment in general
The oldest Live Reptile and Amphibian Exhibit in the Southwestern United States
Monthly meetings in three different locations; Los Angeles, Bakersfield, and Redlands, with speakers, sales and other services for attendees.
Two different publications; Herpetology, a twice yearly journal with articles about reptiles and amphibians and the Society's Monthly Newsletter.
