MISSION
The mission of ICA Ghana is to build confidence in individuals and groups and provide skills aimed at sustainable growth and development towards a better future, while conscious of the need to represent the interest of the underprivileged in society and facilitate the improvement of their status.
We have the vision of a World in which every individual can contribute to global peace, equity and general improvement of life on earth. Our aim is to put human beings at the centre of development. Our objectives are to:
Provide training to all category of people in Technology of Participation (ToP)
Promote sustainable development activities in all spheres of Ghanaian society, e.g. health, education, agriculture, micro credit etc.
Provide facilitation services to Ghanaian society
PROGRAMMES
Training
In May 2002, ICA Ghana successfully conducted the second in the series of our regional training programmes dubbed IToPToF 2002, which attracted participants from Ghana and four other African countries.
Training in Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) to build the capacities of Environmental NGOs and Environmental Protection Agency Regional Directors was also held from March to June 2002 at various locations throughout the country.
Facilitation
Facilitated a three-year strategic plan for Habitat for Humanity Ghana
At the request of Habitat for Humanity Ghana, conducted a Participatory Evaluation to assess the performance of their Kumasi Regional Office
Research
Kyabobo Area Management Participatory Project: involved an assessment of natural resource availability and use in the Kyabobo conservation area in the Volta Region of Ghana. Conducted by ICA Ghana at the request of SNV.
Sustainable Development
Integrated Rural Development Programme: The second year of this three-year programme saw the training of 20 women's groups in the project area in income generation, bookeeping, project management, etc. Also, during the year the groups were given interest-free loans to enable them expand their income generating activities.
Enhancing Rural Development Programme in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region. This is aimed at building capacities of 30 self-help Community-Based Organisations. At the moment, the groups have been trained and are being given credit and other forms of assistance to transform them into viable economic entities.
Basic Schools Programme: ICA Ghana in collaboration with UNICEF and the Ghana Education Service is undertaking schools improvement activities in the Zabzugu Tatale District of the Northern Region.
ICA Ghana is also playing a leading role in the UN Global Forest Policy Dialogue (IFF) as part of our commitment to ensure sustainable use of natural resources.
Africa National ICAs HIV/AIDS Programme
ICA Ghana has been selected for the launch of the ICA African HIV/AIDS initiative. This is an initiative to be undertaken by all ICAs in Africa over a 3-year period to tackle the problem of HIV/AIDS. The programme is designed to develop community/home based network of care for HIV/AIDS affected children and families. The launch takes place at Ve Golokwati in the Volta Region in July 2002.
