About [Edit]
Our mission is to develop and maintain a permanent resource of affordable housing, promote healthy neighborhoods, and provide opportunities for low income people through partnerships and community involvement.
REACH was established in 1982 by a group of community activists concerned about housing conditions in the Buckman neighborhood. Today, REACH provides affordable housing for over 1,000 people in the Portland metropolitan area.
Since 1982, REACH has:
- Built, renovated and preserved 1,012 houses and apartments for rent or home ownership, including seven apartment buildings with on-site services for formerly homeless people, mentally disabled adults and the elderly
- Worked with local residents and business owners to revitalize neighborhoods and local business districts
- Provided no-cost home repairs for over 800 low-income home owners who need a hand due to age or disability
- Created innovative programs for REACH residents that build leadership, independence and skills
REACH is a community-based organization, drawing strength and direction from its volunteers, donors and community. In fiscal year 2004-2005, more than 500 volunteers worked 3,600 hours and over 700 individual and business donors contributed over $165,000 in cash to REACH. The majority of our board lives and/or works in our service area.
