The East Little Havana Community Development Corporation (ELHCDC) was incorporated in 1984 and began operations in 1986 to revitalize the East Little Havana Neighborhood. Among its goals, are to combat community deterioration, poverty, racial and ethnic discrimination and prejudice, to reduce neighborhood tensions, to relive the poor, distressed and underprivileged, to conduct activities that achieve educational and charitable objectives, to maintain and develop adequate affordable housing, to promote residential rehabilitation and commercial area revitalization, to raise the economic, cultural and educational levels of underprivileged residents, to expand employment opportunities furthering the development of locally owned or operated business in the Little Havana area.
Since its inception, East Little Havana CDC has been supported by Federal, State, County, and City of Miami agencies in its efforts, as well as by local and national foundations and private corporations. The IRS has recognized East Little Havana CDC since 1984 as a non‑profit charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3).
