In 1990 the Cabildo de Tenerife, the island's administrative authority, founded the ITER. This centre was conceived as a pioneering project for the island of Tenerife, whose objectives were to encourage technological research and development related to the use of renewable energies and other aspects that contribute to the socio-economic development of our archipelago.
At the present time, the Institute has a multidisciplinary team of more than 70 professional, comprising of an administrative department, maintenance and three R+D Divisions.

The main activities of ITER are:

* Electricity generation from wind energy.
* The research on projects related to renewable energies, environment and new tecnologies..
