FIPA's main objectives are twofold: First, to defend and improve public access to information in a world where quality of information and speed of access equals power.



Second, to defend personal privacy in a world where our personal information travels at the speed of light and its use is increasingly beyond our control. A world where a wide range of new technologies present grave threats to privacy.



Main Activities



Public Legal Education



FIPA provides information and education on Freedom of Information (FOI) and privacy issues by issuing publications and staging public events.



Public Assistance



FIPA provides the public with information and non-legal advice to help them with their questions, problems and concerns regarding access to information and privacy protection.



Legal and Policy Research



FIPA acts as a legal research and policy resource on freedom of information, privacy and other information issues.



Law Reform



We are British Columbia's major public watchdog for FOI and privacy issues, and the only advocacy group in Canada devoted soley to these issues
