About  [Edit]

Bay Area Action (BAA) is a citizen education organization working in the San Francisco Bay Area to preserve and restore the environment. Bay Area Action's mission is to help people discover and strengthen their connection and concern for the natural environment through education and hands-on action-oriented activities. We aim to build broad-based coalitions, empower citizens, and develop leadership skills among our members.

BAA was founded on April 22, 1990 by volunteers and staff of the National Earth Day 1990 Campaign. BAA's programs cover a spectrum of environmental issues. We support issue-based programs such as the American Forests Project, Nuclear Issues Project, Electric Vehicle Project, the Community Organic Garden Project, outreach programs such as the BAA Cafe, Publications, and Earth Day Project, as well as constituency-based programs such as our Schools Project. In addition, we work closely with affiliates like the East Palo Alto Historical and Agricultural Society (EPA-HAS) and other local and national groups. The Arastradero Preserve Project recently submitted a proposal to the City of Palo Alto to obtain a lease for the 600 acre preserve and buildings on the property.
