About [Edit]
The Institute for Humane Education is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to creating a humane world through humane education. IHE envisions a world in which people live humanely, sustainably, and peaceably. To create this change, IHE trains people to be humane educators, advances the field of humane education, and provides tools and inspiration for living an examined, meaningful life.
Humane education not only inspires individuals to make personal choices
that do the most good and the least harm, but also teaches people how to become
critical thinkers and problem solvers who have the knowledge and commitment to
pursue creative answers to entrenched global challenges.
In 1997, IHE established the first Humane Education Certificate Program (HECP) in the United States, and in 2000, affiliated with Cambridge College to offer a distance-learning Master of Education degree in Humane Education, also a first in the U.S. IHE offers its acclaimed Sowing Seeds Workshops in the United States and Canada, and each year trains hundreds of people to be humane educators who, in turn, reach thousands of students. IHE also offers MOGO (Most Good) Workshops, designed to educate and empower people to put their values into action in all aspects of their lives and work.
In addition, we provide a variety of useful resources -- such as humane education lesson plans and activities -- on our website, and offer relevant, meaningful information, news, resources and insights through our Humane Edge E-News and our Humane Connection blog.
