About [Edit]
Mission: To promote conservation and public health by improving primary health care to people and animals in and around protected areas in Africa.
Vision: To control disease transmission where wildlife, people and their animals meet while cultivating a winning attitude to wildlife conservation and public health in local communities.
Conservation Through Public Health's integrated approach to human health and wildlife conservation strategy:
(i) People, wildlife and domestic animals in close contact can transmit diseases to each other, making it more cost effective to manage their health together in these situations. Transmittable diseases such as tuberculosis, scabies, brucellosis, rabies and ebola are preventable.
(ii) Connecting the improvement of human health to wildlife conservation is a key to securing long-term commitment from local communities to protect wildlife for future generations. This important link improves people’s quality of life and promotes an understanding of how the environment has a direct effect on the well being of human health.
