About [Edit]
The organizations of CARDI have joined in mutual concern for the hundreds of thousands of Indonesians displaced by civil strife in the conviction that through shared efforts, a significant contribution can be made toward improving existing conditions and prospects for the future. Wherever possible, CARDI works with and through local partners to increase the capacity of local organizations to respond to the needs of their communities and to facilitate programs that promote sustainability and self-reliance.
CARDI was formed in the firm belief that by working together we can achieve considerable economies of scale, better coordinate efforts in the field, avoid duplication of costly operations structures, and maximize considerable financial, technical and human resources.
CARDI operates in the following areas:
* Emergency Relief: preparedness and interventions to prevent or mitigate the consequences of man-made disasters. These interventions include but are not limited to the areas of public health, shelter, water and sanitation
* Capacity Building: institutional strengthening, organizational development of community-based organizations and local NGOs
* Support to Women and children: reproductive health, gender-based violence, promotion of leadership, psychosocial support, non-formal and formal education
* Community Development: resource centers, peace-building activities, support to communities with high numbers of IDPs or returnees
* Economic empowerment: income generation, agriculture, vocational training, microfinance, micro enterprise, access to resources
* Support to Return or Resettlement: reconstruction, water and sanitation, education, conflict resolution and peace-building activities, general support to communities with high numbers of returnees
*Other activities aimed at reinforcing the capacity of communities to resist and address the consequences of conflict and forced displacement
