About  [Edit]

Mission of the Center for the Art of Translation

The Center for the Art of Translation promotes international literature and translation through programs in the arts, education, and community outreach. We seek to promote world literature—with its power to move, inform, and inspire—and to create an active, artistic global community. Our activities include Poetry Inside Out, an education program that teaches the art and craft of poetry, translation, and composition to elementary and middle school students; TWO LINES World Library, featuring internationally acclaimed publications of world writing in translation; and Lit&Lunch, a reading series located in the heart of downtown San Francisco that introduces new audiences to international literature.

The Center seeks to promote world literature--with its power to move, inform, and inspire--and provide a window into the cultures that produce it.
