About [Edit]
The Imam Sadr Foundation seeks to contribute to building a society of equity that lives in harmony with its multiplicity, interacts with and responds to the basic emergency needs of the populace, especially what relates to health, education, social harmony, and economic self-sufficiency. The organization has started its work in 1962, and has accomplished since then a good record in establishing schools, socio-medical centers, and training institutes, in fostering orphan girls and social hardship cases, and integrating children with special educational needs. Hard work is being done to increase the number of participants and on deepening the impact of the interventions through monitoring the increasing demands of the concerned people and designing what suits their will and expectations.
The Imam Sadr Foundation believes in participatory organized work, and draws its inspiration from the divine revelation and the path of the founding Imam in building a society of equity and openness.
The Foundation has, since the beginning, been distinguished by its capability to launch initiatives and to persevere in very difficult circumstances, and by the continuous development of its abilities initially based on working with women and for everybody. The synthesis of the experience was that woman is the most capable and the most skilled in picking up deep-rooted problems of the society, therefore in achieving the required change. Thus, the real development won’t be possible but through redefining the roles of women and men towards more equity in work relation, mentalities, legislations and life styles in general.
General Objectives:
- Improving life conditions for specific groups in South Lebanon, i.e. orphan girls, women, local communities in rural and poor suburban areas) by providing the targeted groups with their basic needs – mainly health and education – developing their abilities in learning and in getting the equal economic and social opportunities, and merging them into the economically capable strata;
- Responding to the basic needs of the marginalized, the victims of struggles and persons with special educational needs up to self-reliance and integration in their environment and society;
- Preparing the adequate conditions to consolidate the culture of openness, dialogue and conciliation in order to build a just society of equal opportunities, participation, and accountability regardless of belief, color, or sex.
