About  [Edit]

Our goal
Increase funding to meet the needs of our children and children around the world (at no additional taxpayer expense) by reducing money spent on cold war era weapon systems and other Pentagon programs that are not needed in the post-Cold War world.

Our Strategy

We work to get the issue of budget priorities into the national debate. We use all means at our disposal, including advertising, public relations, placing op-eds, and face-to-face meeting with members of Congress and their staffs. We believe that the more that people hear our simple message ? that an insignificant cut in bloated Pentagon spending could make all the difference to our and the world's children ? they will support our campaign

Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities believe America can have a more humane government. We aim to create a political culture, grounded in spiritual and human values, that will not tolerate wasting billions of dollars on nuclear weapons, Star Wars, or other outmoded weapons, while, for example, one out of every six of our own kids live in poverty and millions of children worldwide die each year from hunger-related illnesses. To accomplish this, we have no use for Washington lobbyists. We want creative, inspired people, like you, to join us ? and take action

PROJECTS:

TrueMajority

TrueMajority is the grassroots, bottom-up aspect of BLSP. It provides an easy way for a great mass of people concerned about a particular issue to make their voices heard, without having to research addresses for their representatives and then compose messages from scratch.

TrueMajority is designed for people who know that politics is crazy, but some of it matters to everything from our neighborhood schools to world hunger. The staff of the TrueMajority filters through the political muck, identifies what's most important, and figures out how citizens can make a difference using e-mail and requiring only a couple minutes of time per month. Members of the TrueMajority are recruited primarily via e-mail. Our expert and creative web heads produce e-mails designed to be so compelling, interesting, funny, entertaining, or otherwise noteworthy that they go viral, meaning they are passed along by individuals to others whom they know. Each e-mail closes with a way to take action now and in the future by joining the TrueMajority. Once they've joined, TrueMajority members will receive periodic e-mail alerts so their collective voices are heard in the political arena.

Our "Ten Point Statement of Principles" is supported by a variety of organizations ranging from Greenpeace to the United Nations Association and representing over 2 million citizens who were disappointed that America's response to 9/11 focused on old policies of more guns, more oil drilling, more aid to big corporations and little else even though we were told "everything had changed."

Priorities Campaign

The Priorities! Campaign runs a unique communications program, which includes news media relations, advertising, and state-of-the-art marketing. Our professional PR staff makes sure journalists across the country know our perspective on issues relating to national budget priorities. They set up interviews and briefings among journalists and top military, religious, and business leaders who speak with authority and credibility. National print, television, and Internet ads are an integral part of the Priorities! Campaign.
