About  [Edit]

WPA is a registered, non-governmental and non profit environmental organisation. WPA's mission is to promote Clean Production methodology, waste reduction at source, and environmentally friendly waste management: segregation and recycling, as well as rational utilisation of "historical" waste.

Currently our activities are focused on the medical waste stream. We provied trainings for hospitals on preparation and implementation of waste minimisation plan, recycling of non infectious waste, and safe disposal of remaning fraction.

Together with foreign NGOs we conduct international campaigns on the reduction and safe management of waste, promotion of non combustion treatment technologies, and elimination of persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

The statutory objectives of the Waste Prevention Association are:
  • conservation, protection and restoration of natural environment,
  • waste and pollution prevention at source,
  • prevention of wasteful use of raw materials and of improper waste management and disposal,
  • promotion of Clean Production principles,
  • promotion of reusable packaging,
  • elimination from production and use of chemicals and products which have adverse effects on natural environment and human health,
  • prevention of international waste trade, especially with respect to hazardous waste,
  • increasing public access to information on the pollutants and wastes being generated.

The Association pursues the above objectives through:
  • promotion of environmentally safe methods of waste minimisation and management,
  • running of educational and informational campaigns,
  • conducting of publishing activity, also using information technology,
  • providing informational and substantive assistance to other environmental organisations and local governments,
  • participation in administrative proceedings relating to investment projects in the area of waste management.
