About  [Edit]

ActionAid International is an international development agency that is presently working in 43 countries to fight poverty and injustice. We are governed by an International Governing Board comprising of 15 honorary members of international repute, supported by an International Secretariat, based in Johannesberg with its regional and sub-regional offices, in Asia , Africa , Latin America and Europe.

ActionAid India was setup in 1972 with the Vision of an India and world without poverty and injustice, one in which every woman, man, girl and boy enjoys the right to life with dignity.

Our Mission is to work with poor and excluded women, men, girls and boys to fight poverty and injustice. In the three decades of our work in India , we have formed partnerships with nearly 400 NGOs and community based organizations (CBO) to support more than 5 million of the poorest and most marginalised people to participate in the development process by accessing their human rights and entitlements.

We believe that any dent in the scenario of persistent inequity and injustice, would require addressing the root causes of poverty, and not just the distress conditions. Our role stems out of this world-view of poverty, which requires what is described as the rights-based approach to development. We would seek to restore rights of poor and marginalised women and men, girls and boys. These rights may be constitutional, moral and/or legal entitlements, available to all human by the state and civil society.

Our goal is to strengthen the community organization, social institutions and capacity of poor and marginalized people to enable formation of their alliances, which in turn would work to overcome the root causes of their poverty, marginalisation and exclusion.
