About [Edit]
The mission of the State of the World Forum is to establish a global network of leaders, citizens and institutions committed to discerning and implementing those principles, values and actions necessary to guide humanity wisely as it gives shape to an increasingly global and interdependent civilization.
The Forum seeks to achieve this mission by:
Convening conferences designed for deep dialogue on issues of fundamental ethical importance;
Inviting to these discussions individuals from a spectrum of disciplines and from around the world, including youth, in a spirit of collaborative inquiry and mutual respect;
Challenging all stakeholders to transform what they have come to know about the world into constructive actions and projects;
Building a global coalition of leaders and institutions willing to work together in an integrative manner on issues of mutual concern.

Saving Civilization: An Integral Apporach to Climate Change and the Global Commons
09 State of the World Forum
Convening at the Washington D.C. Hilton Hotel
November 12-14, 2009
In the spiritu of John F. Kennedy's call for a ten year mission to put a man on the moon, state of the World Forum and partners around the world call for the world leaders to engage in a ten year Global Transition Initiative to greem the global economy. This Initiative will call on a restored form of moral leadership that transcends the narrow self-interests that have so badly damaged our economies and prevented serious efforts to mitigate the escalating effects of climate change.
Commission on Globalization
Conceived of at Forum 2000, the purpose of the Commission on Globalization is to be an incubator, catalyst and integrator for innovative leaders and institutions working to bring greater equity, democracy and accountability to globalization and global governance. The goal of the Commission is to develop an interconnected web of dynamic partners and projects worldwide, all working in highly diverse ways and in different domains, while united in the common effort to create a more humane future for humanity.
Whole Child
The Whole Child Initiative continues its work to identify, chronicle and support grassroots community-based projects worldwide which are helping children thrive in especially difficult circumstances. Its mission is to build a learning community based on recent findings in early childhood development combined with traditional approaches that are achieving extraordinary results at the village and community level.

A growing coalition of environmental, business, and government organizations are coming together to address the crisis of climate change at a much more urgent and broad-based level that what is presently being debated by our political leaders.
The event is being convened by the same team that created the State of the World Forum in San Francisco from 1995-1999 and the millennial summit in New York in 2000.
Like the initial State of the World Forum that emerged from the sense of opportunity that came out of the end of the Cold War, the 2009 Forum will build on the optimism produced by the Obama presidency and the growing global movement of organizations taking action in various dimensions of the problem. We are driven by the recognition that mankind is facing its greatest challenge and we still do not have the level of public and political will, or the level of environmental consciousness necessary to save the planet.
We will be using state-of-the-art technology and facilitation platforms to inspire attendees, bring together best practices and the latest information from around the world, and generate concrete proposals and actions. The Forum will address the climate change problem using an integral approach so that we can generate solutions that will, in fact, address the various terrains of human experience.
The 2009 State of the World Forum will launch a ten year initiative with future conferences to be held in different world centers.
