About  [Edit]

Established in 2006, People's Empowerment Foundation is a registered independent non-governmental organization (NGO) developed from a local initiative to strengthen civil society in Thailand.

Our mission is to create sustainable mechanisms for individual actors, civil society members, grassroots coalitions and popular movements to work together as networked catalysts for positive social change.

People's Empowerment acts as the executive secretariat for a coalition of the following five community based organizations (CBOs) in Thailand:

·        Organic farm network of Central Thailand

·        Northeastern Community Network

·        People Media Network of Bangkok

·        Women Slum Network

·        Coordination Committee for Civil Society organizations in southern Thailand (CCOS)

Through our many projects, People's Empowerment serves as a link between numerous domestic and international partner organizations and individuals working to promote a vigorous civil society throughout Thailand and Southeast Asia.

What we believe

People's Empowerment believes in the individual's rights to peace, social justice, human rights, and economic security, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or religion.

In order to realize these essential elements of human well being, People's Empowerment has developed the innovative concept of "People-to-People" (P2P) action.

Our objectives are:

I.                     To increase the capacity of people networks in Thailand.

II.                   To provide people networks the opportunity to directly engage with each other,   through innovative "People-to-People" action. Vision People's Empowerment seeks to fashion diverse civil society organizations into a unified movement promoting human rights, justice, and cooperation in Thai society.

How We Work

People's Empowerment consults and supports individuals, grassroots groups, movements, people's networks and international organizations in their activities.

We carry out field missions to network members on a regular basis to study conditions on the ground, promote local campaigns and advance organizational cooperation.

People's Empowerment provides both horizontal links between different grass-roots organizations and vertical ties with public agents at the national, regional and international levels.

Core Programming Components:

1. Capacity Building: Developing Thai peoples` networks by providing training, professional development, administrative coordination, capacity building tools, professional expertise, and best practices

2. P2P: To establish and solidify "People-to-People" engagement between various peoples` networks.

Core Programming Philosophy:

1. Measurement of outcomes, not input.

2. Proactive, not reactive.

3. Cooperation, knowledge sharing, and mutual-support among CSOs is the most effective and sustainable approach to ensure a strong and vibrant civil society.

What We Do

People's Empowerment works to promote a wide range of human rights and human security issues throughout Thailand and the region. Throughout our many activities, a single goal is realized, strengthening of community based action in Thailand.

People's Empowerment serves as a forum in which member organizations can share knowledge, strategies, and resources in order to work together for positive social change.

Our activities encompass a broad range of issues, representing a cross section of Thai civil society. Examples include cultivating Thai-Burmese relations across border communities; career development for Women in Thailand's conflict stricken southern provinces; aiding displaced persons within Thailand; and guiding the National Process on the drafting of the ASEAN Peoples Charter.
