About [Edit]
The Anacostia Watershed Society [AWS] is a local, 501[c][3] non-profit environmental organization that is working to protect and restore the Anacostia River and its watershed. AWS seeks to fulfill its mandate of a swimmable and fishable river through its programs of education, action and advocacy.
Parts of Our Manifesto: Clean the water - Preserve and restore natural river beds and embankments where possible; Preserve and expand functioning wetlands. Recover the shores - Create linked wildlife habitats; Control stream bank erosion. Honor the heritage - Restore and preserve historic sites; Retain and manage as a unity all public lands in the Watershed as a legacy for future generations.
Our Vision: To make the Anacostia and its tributaries swimmable and fishable, to restore and protect our local environment for the health and enjoyment of everyone in our community, and to bring together people across all walks of life to achieve this vision.
