About [Edit]
AEC Organization
The Alberni Environmental Coalition was formed in 1979 by a group of people concerned with pesticide use on rail lines above or beside their property. As well, there were extensive problems with pollution in the air and water from pulp mill emissions. The Coalition came together to deal with these and other environmental problems and incorporated as a non-profit society in 1989.
In 1990 we were successful in obtaining a bingo licence and opened an office which we have since maintained. The funding from the licence provides us with enough money to pay rent, buy office equipment and pay limited honorariums to volunteers who keep the office open.
As more and more of our Valley is cut down, polluted, and otherwise neglected, we strive below to provide a forum for the public to become aware of a few of the environmental issues in their backyard.
We have a well-known environmental website which we need to maintain, expand and redesign. We have the capability and equipment to produce and put videos on our website and have some video productions available for viewing now. We plan to produce videos on sustainable, organic gardening for home use and small farm market sales and need funding to begin this work. We also want to expand into live internet broadcasting in order to record and provide witness for events, rallies, demonstrations, projects, meetings and on-going environmental contamination.
