About  [Edit]

From the time that Albina du Boisrouvray founded FXB in 1989, she has sought to identify and apply practical solutions to the social, economic and health problems caused by the AIDS pandemic. FXB has been a leading innovator and pioneer in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the formulation of low-cost solutions to care for those infected and affected by the virus. FXB works with the conviction that the inextricable link between Health and Human Rights is a key to sustainable development.

With a yearly budget of nearly USD 5 million, FXB reached 1.400,000 persons in 18 countries in 2003, through 87 programs.

MISSION

The mission of FXB is to fight AIDS and support the world’s orphans and vulnerable children left in the wake of the AIDS pandemic by advocating for their needs and by providing direct support to families and communities that care for them. These children are the showcase for larger numbers of abandoned children in our global world.

VISION

AIDS orphans and all children affected by AIDS are some of the most vulnerable children living in this world.

FXB seeks to ensure that these children are placed at the top of the agenda of decision makers and those who fund projects so that increased efforts to care for these children will improve the lives of all vulnerable children.

FXB establishes model community-based programs that empower and support communities that care for and support vulnerable children affected by AIDS and poverty.

FXB promotes the inextricable link between Health and Human Rights to ensure that children have access to basic health services as their right.

GOALS AND STRATEGIES

The strategies implemented by FXB in the field vary according to the social, cultural, economic and political scenarios present in these countries and particular locales where the programs are implemented. From prevention and treatment to basic education, nutrition support and community development, all strategies are aimed at reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS, demonstrating the inextricable link between Health and Human Rights, and advocating for those who have neither the voice nor the power to affect change: namely the children, especially all orphans and vulnerable children.

PARTNERSHIPS

FXB has partnered with local and international organizations. For example, in India, FXB works with the education and labor sectors for all the school and college programs and for workplace intervention programs in industries in West Bengal and Karnataka. In Brazil, FXB partners with the National STD/AIDS Program. In Colombia, FXB collaborates with the national UNAIDS office on prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. FXB South Africa is a member of umbrella bodies within the community that have the same objectives.

IMPACT

In several countries, FXB has influenced national public policies. In India, FXB’s regular reporting from the remote and rural areas significantly increased and encouraged national monitoring and surveillance of HIV/AIDS cases. FXB Brazil is one of five NGOs included in the National HIV/AIDS Council, a technical advisory board established to assist with the design and implementation of national policy. FXB is currently promoting the conversion of “HIV/AIDS support homes” into community centers, just as the FXB House in Brazil was transformed into a community center in the last few years. With more than 12 years experience in the field in Uganda, the FXB program has significantly highlighted the need for a policy and framework to support Orphans and Vulnerable Children [OVC]. In addition, the FXB Uganda Program was selected as a national model for studying the best practices for supporting OVCs.
