Mission Statement:
Believing in the worth and dignity of all persons, the mission of the Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina is to advocate on behalf of homeless persons, increase public awareness of homelessness and its social impact, and develop strategies that effectively, efficiently and comprehensively address the needs of homeless persons.
Programs
Continuum of Care:
The Continuum of Care (COC) is the term used for the process of coordinating services and planning among all the homeless service providers in the area. The Upstate Homeless Coalition of S.C. is the umbrella organization. It leads the following activities:
- That there is a homeless count each year
- That the service providers get together to share resources, network, and plan
- That is helps the service providers desiring a HUD Supportive Housing Grant
- It gives technical assistance to other agencies, especially shelter providers
Helping Homeless People:
In order to be eligible for consideration in the Upstate Homeless Coalition's programs, a person must meet one of HUD's definitions of homelessness, which are as follows:
- Staying in a shelter
- Living on the street i.e., woods, car, abandoned building
- In the last five days of a Writ of Ejectment (eviction papers)
