Objectives: Its objectives also include providing education in human rights to all sectors of Colombian society and defending these rights. It is a private, non-governmental, non-profit organization which works with universities, other private and public educational institutions, the media and governmental bodies toward achieving its objectives.
Activities: The Asociacion's activities include:
(1) political, juridical and socio-economic research aimed at determining the current state of human rights in Colombia and the feasibility of concrete action for the free exercise of those rights by the entire population;
(2) educational activities such as regional and national fora, seminars and workshops on human rights teaching, and the preparation of course syllabi and other teaching materials;
(3) promotional activities in the form of serial and other publications on human rights theory and practice, reprints of international and inter-governmental human rights documents in Spanish and native languages, radio and TV programs, and public and private conferences; and
(4) the defense of human rights through public denunciations of violations, legal measures aimed at preventing human rights violations during military trials and other legal proceedings, and efforts on behalf of individual victims of such violations.
Currently, the Asociacion is preparing a book, Educacion Social Integral, on new forms of education in human rights and a human rights manual for high school students and for associations of permanent education.
