About [Edit]
Mission Statement
The Agape Foundation expresses its commitment to a just and peaceful world by supporting the nonviolent social change organizations that will create that world.
Value Statement
We are committed to true human security through equitably redistributing resources, and challenging all forms of oppression. Our decisions and discussions are rooted in histories of nonviolent resistance. We promote community-based efforts towards creating systemic change for social justice. We value transparent decision-making processes as an aspect of nonviolence. We are participatory and consensus based. We value and foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture. We believe that those communities that we fund and fiscally sponsor should be represented in the foundation.
Who we are
The Agape Foundation is a non-profit public foundation, which raises and distributes funds to groups working for nonviolent social change. Since its formation in 1969 by a group of pacifists and anti-war activists in Palo Alto, California, the Agape Foundation has provided millions of dollars to nonviolent, grassroots organizations throughout the western United States.
What we do
Agape provides seed grants, loans and fiscal sponsorship to organizations addressing the following six areas: Peace, Human Rights, Environmental Protection, Economic Justice, Progressive Arts & Media and Grassroots Organizing Support. The organizations we fund must be younger than 5 years, have budgets under $100,000, and are based in California.
• We provide seed grants to new, California-based, peace and justice organizations to help them get off the ground.
• We provide a fiscal sponsorship program that allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions to smaller
groups in California, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Texas, Vermont and Wyoming who do not have their own tax-exempt status.
• We offer short-term, low-interest loans to peace and justice organizations in the western United States.
• We provide emergency grants to help California-based, peace and justice organizations respond to unforeseen governmental, corporate, environmental or military events.

Peacemakers deliver hope. With their actions. With their vision. With their leadership. They light the path to equality and justice. For us to follow.
Please join us on Thursday, September 18, 2008 for the Fourth Annual Agape Foundation Peace Prize in celebration of the U.N. declared International Day of Peace. Come join us for a wine and hors d'oeuvre reception as we award prizes to established and emerging Northern California Peacemakers. The Enduring Visionary Prize will honor a peacemaker who has made a sustained effort to create peace in their community, nationally, or internationally. The Rising Peacemaker Prize will honor a new peacemaker who has made a critical difference toward progressive change within the last five years. The winner of the prize will be announced at the event.
The 2008 Enduring Visionary Prize Winner is Madeline Taylor Duckles, who has given 60 years of her life to world disarmament, full rights for women, racial and economic justice, and an end to all forms of violence.
The 2008 Rising Peacemaker Prize Winner Finalists are:
Rachel Abileah, national organizer with Code Pink.
Roni Krouzman, a grassroots activist and educator who directs Next Generation, inspiring young people and communities to work for peace.
Elizabeth Sy, the founder of Banteay Srei, a non-judgmental youth development organization of young Southeast Asian women who are at risk of or engaged in sex work.
