Story of Stuff Project Hiring Lead Organizer

The Story of Stuff Project seeks an experienced on-line communicator and organizer to lead our engagement with the growing Story of Stuff community, viewers, and external partners from our downtown Berkeley office. This is a full-time, fast-paced, creative position within a rapidly developing non-profit organization.  Competitive salary, excellent benefits, challenging and fun work environment. Please e-mail a cover letter (including salary requirements), your resume, 3 references and a work sample that you feel best represents you (a website or blog, written piece, video, report, description of an organizing campaign, etc.) to Associate Director Michael O’Heaney at michael@storyofstuff.org.

The Story of Stuff Project

The Story of Stuff is a fast-paced, fact-filled look at the often hidden environmental and social impacts of all the stuff in our lives. The film has been viewed over 7 million times on-line and continues to be seen an average of 10,000 times each day.

Led by Story of Stuff creator Annie Leonard, The Story of Stuff Project seeks to amplify public discourse on a diverse set of sustainability issues and drive the growing Story of Stuff community toward innovative efforts to build a more sustainable and just world.

In 2009 and 2010, we are developing and fielding a network centric organizing strategy and tools that enables us to inform, inspire, connect and activate our viewers and supporters, both on-line and in the real world; sustainability education and action programs in two of America’s most influential social institutions—our schools and places of worship; new media, including a series of digital shorts co-produced and distributed with movement allies; a strategic communications effort to leverage the release of The Story of Stuff book; and a collaborative systems mapping effort to uncover and popularize the most strategic leverage points for transforming systems of production and consumption.
