About

WILPF is seeking a dynamic and experienced person to manage and direct the organization’s programs and projects in our United Nations office located in New York City. The UN Office Director reports to WILPF’s Secretary General in Geneva, Switzerland, and is responsible to an international team of elected Executive Committee members and an International Board composed of members from 35 national sections throughout the world.

 

The position of Director requires an exceptional ability to relate effectively to diverse groups such as the United Nations staff and diplomatic community, NGO’s and coalition partners, donors and heads of foundations, WILPF staff, interns and activists in many countries. The ideal candidate will have  successful experience in fiscal management and fund-raising.

 

Profile

The candidate should have:

  • A thorough knowledge of WILPF’s program and a commitment to the policy, aims and principles of the organization;
  • Thorough knowledge of the UN;
  • Experience and proven skills in project management and a participative, collaborative work style;
  • Successful administrative experience within an international peace, human rights, or social justice organization;
  • Training and skills in fiscal management, grant writing and fund-raising;
  • Ability to envision and creatively contribute to program development;
  • Ability to form collaborative teams and networks within WILPF and with other NGOs;
  • Sensitivity for and experience with cultural and gender issues and multicultural dialogue;
  • The capacity to speak and write fluently in English;
  • Demonstrated computer competence; and
  • An ability to accommodate a flexible daily work schedule.

Tasks Include:

  • Daily management of the WILPF UN Office including planning, implementation, project monitoring/supervision and reporting as well as personnel management;
  • Providing leadership, coordination and guidance to a small paid staff, interns and many volunteers;
  • Preparing and coordinating grant requests and project proposals;
  • Playing an active role in policy, project and program development;
  • Representing WILPF at the UN and international meetings;
  • Working in collaboration with other NGOs;
  • Establishing a yearly work plan and budget and providing regular activity reports.
