ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
The Global Fund for Women is an international grantmaking foundation that supports groups working to advance the human rights of women and girls. We work in partnership with groups addressing issues that include but are not limited to: Building Peace & Ending Gender-Based Violence; Advancing Health and Sexual & Reproductive Rights; Expanding Civic & Political Participation; Ensuring Economic & Environmental Justice; Increasing Access to Education; and Fostering Social Change Philanthropy. Since its inception in 1987, the Global Fund has granted over $61 million to more than 3,500 women’s groups in 167 countries.
JOB SUMMARY
The Program Associate position provides direct administrative and substantive support to the Director of Programs of the region. The Program Associate for Asia and Oceania reports to and is guided by the Director of Programs, Asia and Oceania.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Grant Making
· Data-entry of incoming grant proposals and updating contact information in the database
· Communicate with current and potential grant recipients including: responding to inquiries on the status of proposals; gathering additional information, and sending decline letters
· Communicate, as needed, with Global Fund Advisors for additional information on potential grant recipients
· Draft written summaries of the groups’ purposes and activities
· Translate and/or coordinate the translation of proposals and program related materials
· File and maintain grant-making documents
· Help with the compilation of grants docket, including: preparing analysis of prospective groups and helping research specific topics related to the region
· As needed, prepare summaries of final reports for grants awarded
· Other projects related to grant-making
Outreach/Communications
· Compile region specific information for various requests
· Help with mailings and community outreach/public speaking
Miscellaneous
· Participate in cross-functional work-teams and other Fund teams as appropriate
· Follow the Global Fund policies and procedures
· Handle ad hoc projects
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required
· Some familiarity with women’s rights in the region
· Some familiarity with the economic, political, social and cultural trends in the region
· Some knowledge of Asia and Oceania via previous work, study, or living experience
· Fluency in oral and written English
· Good working knowledge of geography
· Critical thinking skills
· Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and able to multi-task
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Demonstrated sensitivity and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and different communication styles in a politically and culturally diverse environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop solid working relationships
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Strong skills in a Macintosh and/or PC environment, and in using MS Office and database programs
Preferred
- Additional oral and written proficiency in Asia/Pacific languages
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree
· Minimum one year work experience
· General non-profit exposure
· Experience in working in a diverse, team-oriented, and fast-paced environment
START DATE AND COMPENSATION
The projected start date for this position will be mid November, 2009. The Program Associate will work full time and is an exempt position with a starting salary of $37,000-40,000.
