Crisis Management and Security Coordinator

The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre, based in Uppsala,

Sweden that supports and promotes non-violent approaches to conflict transformation

through a combination of research and action. Through our field offices, we work with local

partners in Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the

Republic of Congo.

During the coming months, LPI intends to strengthen the organisation’s crisis preparedness

and security management practices. We are therefore looking for a coordinator to manage

this effort and to ensure its institutionalisation. The position is part-time, 50% for a period of

five months.

 

Main responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the project/effort including:

_ Conducting a security and crisis management inventory

_ Coordinating needs and information from field offices with head office

_ Preparing and executing crisis simulation and security/crisis seminars at head office

_ Formulating concrete recommendations how LPI can improve its security policy,

plans and practices and contribute to their implementation

_ Ensuring institutionalisation of the effort within the organisation

 

Qualifications required

_ Academic degree in social sciences or other relevant field

_ Experience from NGO security policy formulation

_ Practical experience from crisis management at an organisational level

_ Significant project management experience

_ Field experience

_ Proven analytical skills

_ Proven problem-solving abilities

_ Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team and under

stress

_ Excellent report writing skills

_ Good computer literacy in Word and Excel

_ Fluency in written and spoken English

_ Good knowledge of French

_ Experience from working in an inter-cultural setting

 

In addition, good pedagogic/teaching skills and fluency in French are considered as assets.
