About

The US Civilian Research and Development Foundation is looking for a Development Manager to manage a portfolio composed mainly of U.S. government agency prospects. S/he will proactively research and pursue US government agency prospects and coordinate the development and submission of assigned proposals to existing U.S. government funders.  In addition, as time permits, the Development Manager will assist with outreach to private foundations, corporations, and foreign organizations; and with special events and meetings.

The Development Manager will have day-to-day supervision of a Development Assistant.

 

Selected Responsibilities:

  • Identify and research leads for new U.S. government agency funding sources
  • Work with Senior Program Director for Development and External Relations to develop and implement plans to approach and follow through with potential funding agencies and offices.
  • Coordinate timely production of proposals from inception through final submission to funding source including initial correspondence, concept papers, and full proposals.
  • Ensure ongoing stewardship of previous and new donors, including acknowledgements, regular correspondence, and follow-up reports as appropriate.
  • Meet regularly with staff in planning sessions to achieve program objectives and to develop ideas and strategies for funding new programs or activities.


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and submitting proposals to U.S. government agencies in response to specific RFPs. Previous experience in developing proposals to U.S. government agencies with international and/or science programs (such as NIH, USAID, State Department, etc.) a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing a portfolio of prospects, and managing the process from prospect research to proposal submission to stewardship.
  • Familiarity and experience with U.S. government RFP websites and grant management systems, including FBO, grants.gov, and others.
  • 3 - 5 years of work in a development department, in a position requiring coordinating approaches to multiple funding sources, direct interaction with donors, and strong writing and research skills.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with different individuals, including staff, Board members, major donors, and others.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing employees.
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other fundraising software strongly preferred.

Compensation is dependent upon experience.
