The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre, based in Uppsala, Sweden that supports and promotes non-violent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action. Through our field offices, we work with local partners in Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.

 

We are now looking for a Programme Advisor. The position is full-time and on a permanent basis. Extensive travel to our field programmes will be required.

 

Main responsibilities

_ Contribute to the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the field programmes. This work includes participating in the Programme Unit’s work, writing project proposals and reports and being in direct contact with field staff.

_ Provide support to LPI local staff and partners including the development of appropriate educational tools in one or several domains of conflict transformation.

_ Participate directly in the implementation of the field programmes.

_ Document the activities of LPI and its partners and share these experiences internally

and externally.

 

Qualifications required

_ Master’s degree in peace and conflict research, conflict management, political science or other relevant field

_ At least five years of experience from peace-related work

_ Field experience from the Horn of Africa region, particularly Somalia, Sudan or Ethiopia

_ Significant experience of working with conflict transformation theory and practice as well as capacity to apply this in a project setting

_ Proven analytical skills in relation to conflict issues

_ Proven problem-solving abilities

_ Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team and under stress

_ Excellent report writing skills

_ Good computer literacy in Word and Excel

_ Fluency in written and spoken English

_ Good knowledge of French

_ Experience of working in an inter-cultural setting

 

In addition, experience from research coordination, good pedagogic/teaching skills, fluency in French and good knowledge of Arabic, Swahili, Lingala, Somali or Amharic are considered as assets.
