About

Since 1970 Earth Day has served as a date that calls attention to environmental stewardship and the ecological challenges facing our planet. Although each year many events served to educate the public about environmental issues and ways to save the planet, there had not been a statewide project that encouraged and enabled citizens to do something with their hands that would have a positive environmental impact to preserve and protect their local state and city parks.

Since 1998, the California State Parks Foundation has used Earth Day in a positive way to engage California residents of all ages, regions and experience to get involved in environmental improvement projects at their state parks, local parks and communities, while educating them about behaviors that will help to sustain our planet for future generations. Statewide, thousands of volunteers each year plant trees and community gardens, restore trails and wildlife habitats, and clean up beaches and park lands. Millions of others learn about simple things that can be done every day to protect, preserve and conserve our precious natural resources.

Over the last ten years, our Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup event has engaged thousands of volunteers statewide at hundreds of state and community park locations. More than $3 million dollars has been raised to support these projects.
