Job Level: Specialist


Function:

Coordinates, develops, edits, and writes articles for Heifer’s public websites, e-newsletters and other e-media. Serves as a main point of contact for updating the websites and the principal content liaison between the New Media Team and other Heifer International teams and staff.

 

Responsibilities:

   1.
      Write and coordinate feature stories, news and informational articles for websites and e-media.
   2.
      Research and implement best practices for managing, sharing and archiving Heifer stories and images.
   3.
      Work with New Media Team to create and implement online marketing initiatives.
   4.
      Create and publish content designed to optimize metadata, alt tags and title tags to increase research engine rankings of websites.
   5.
      Develop strategy and content for reaching blogs and social networks.
   6.
      Serve as liaison to develop online marketing strategies for internal departments.
   7.
      Use content management system to streamline site for best technical architecture.
   8.
      Provide direction on integrated marketing campaigns and participate in creating integrated strategy and content for the Web.
   9.
      Actively develop e-communications approaches and vehicles.
  10.
      Coordinate with Donor Response Team for the online promotion of offline Heifer International initiatives.
  11.
      Work with all staff to develop and maintain consistent branding identity on Heifer websites.
  12.
      Promote Heifer International education and awareness through Heifer websites and e-media.
  13.
      Continually research cutting-edge and best practices of email marketing campaigns to make the email newsletter a successful communications vehicle.
  14.
      Update main Heifer International website a minimum of weekly, keeping information current and content fresh.
  15.
      Liaise with other departments to fulfill website publication needs for new programs, events and other information.
  16.
      Present video and other emerging media on the web.
  17.
      Use Content Management System and other content tools and recommend new tools.
  18.
      Manage content, membership, data, reporting and design of Heifer’s monthly e-newsletters.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in English, communications, or a related field; plus two (2) years’  experience in communications and marketing or related field.

OR

Four (4) years’ job-related education, experience, and/or training.

 

Other Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or a related field, plus three (3) years’ full-time experience in communications and marketing.  Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and content management systems highly desirable, as well as prior experience conducting email marketing campaigns.

           

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    *
      Excellent written communications skills especially in writing for the web.
    *
      Understanding of what is a compelling story and appeal for online communication.
    *
      Knowledge of Content Management System, e-newsletter tool and other application service providers to produce Heifer’s Internet content.
    *
      Understanding of and interest in the social action aspect of blogs and social networks.
    *
      Ability to quickly learn web tools, including form field merges and basic html.
    *
      Knowledge of Internet functions and web applications.
    *
      Proven ability to research best practices for web communication.
    *
      Ability to research stories.
    *
      Ability to foster and maintain a spirit of unity, teamwork, and cooperation among all personnel.
