BACKGROUND:

The International Women's Health Coalition (IWHC), an international
nonprofit organization, promotes and protects the sexual and
reproductive health and rights of women and young people worldwide.

The Asia Program works directly with a limited number of key
organizations and colleagues who engage at the policy level on sexual
and reproductive rights and health issues in their countries, and
region-wide. In addition to the policy focus, the Asia program has
some of IWHC's strongest partners working on human rights and
sexuality, and a new effort working with youth organizations. There
is a strong emphasis on professional collaboration, with supportive
grants and technical assistance where appropriate. The Asia Program
currently works with colleagues in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan,
Indonesia and a network based in Turkey, and is expanding region-wide
collaboration.

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

-- Design and implement a program of grants and professional and
advocacy assistance in Asia consistent with IWHC's mission, goals and
objectives.
-- Contribute expertise, perspective and input to IWHC's overall
program, strategy, and organizational development.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

-- Conceptualize, implement and monitor an ongoing program of work
in Asia;

-- Contribute to IWHC's mission to promote, advocate and advance
sexual and reproductive rights and health (SRRH), and the overall
development and strengthening of the organization.

-- Staff supervision.
-- Budgetary responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-- Passion for IWHC's mission.
-- Five or more years work experience in women's sexual and
reproductive rights and health, including at least three years
working in or with organizations based in Asia.
-- Experience in program conceptualization, development and
management, preferably with experience in grant making.
-- Experience in assisting organizations in institutional
strengthening (e.g., strategic planning, budgeting, and staffing).
-- Strong analytic and strategic thinking ability and political
judgment.
-- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with
colleagues from diverse disciplines and perspectives, and
demonstrated effectiveness at interaction in various settings and
fora. 
-- Skills in one or more technical area (e.g. program
evaluation/assessment; organizational development and capacity-
building; advocacy; health sector reform processes).
-- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a
challenging environment, and to balance programmatic and
organizational needs.
-- Proven ability to develop and manage budgets and financial
reports.
-- Knowledge of donors and experience with fundraising.
-- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Competency in one or more Asian languages strongly preferred.
-- Willingness to travel to and within Asia up to 30 percent of
time.
