About

POSITION SUMMARY:

The adviser reports to the director of policies and programs. He/she
is part of the policies team, advises representatives and management
on issues related to his/her field of expertise and is also required
to take on a leadership role with the programs group to validate and
integrate the thematic issues into the overall program. He/she also
devises and proposes program activities related to his/her field of
expertise. 

He/she brings a level of thematic continuity by conducting research
and staying up to date on developments in his/her field. He/she
develops a vision and intervention on strategies, produces analyses
and position papers, individually or in collaboration with others, to
advance the strategic point he/she is defending and position Rights &
Democracy on these issues in Canada and internationally. 

REQUIREMENTS:

-- A second cycle university degree or equivalent work experience
in a sector relevant for the job position. 
-- Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in international
cooperation and in the specialized field for which he/she is
applying, providing specific examples of activities conducted or
employment posts held abroad to demonstrate proven ability in this
sphere of activity; 
-- Ground-level experience (at least one year working abroad in a
sector relevant to the job position); 
-- A solid grasp of the issues pertaining to human rights and
democratic development on a worldwide scale, as well as a good
understanding of international politics and Canada's foreign policy. 

-- Excellent command of the French and English language, spoken
and written; 
-- The selected applicant must have Canadian citizenship or
permanent residency status in Canada.
