About
We are looking for a hands-on senior developer with leadership
experience to manage our technical team and continue enhancing the site
and executing on our roadmap. This person would be responsible for the
overall architecture and design of the site, and would manage a staff
of 3 -5 people, including developers, QA testers, and UI designers. The
position reports directly to the Executive Director of the organization
that is responsible for the site.
This is a long-term contract position. The ideal candidate will be passionate about applying their skills and experience on a project that is trying to make a difference in the world. The work hours are flexible, provided that deliverable timelines are met.
Project:
WiserEarth is a publicly-accessible online database identifying the thousands of organizations throughout the world that address social justice, poverty, and the environment — in short, a sustainable world. This meta-map allows users of all cultures, ages and educational backgrounds to access and navigate the database with little computer training, as well as enables professional users to perform sophisticated and comprehensive research. Our aim is to support and empower activists, non-governmental organizations, academics, scientists, organizers and citizens by revealing, and assisting in integrating, the comprehensive network of social justice and environmental sustainability organizations.
Responsibilities:
•Manage a small technical team
•Provide technical oversight for all aspects of the site
•Provide hands-on coding of minor enhancements, bug fixes, and major functionality releases
•Manage and drive the end-to-end SDLC, from requirements to release
•Interface with technical and non-technical staff
•Present ideas and designs clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences including end users, technical staff, and senior management
Experience:
•Web development - PHP, Javascript, SQL, AJAX, CSS, XHTML
•System administration – Linux, lighttpd, MySQL, Apache
•Experience with the Symfony framework, or any other MVC framework, like Rails or Struts
•Proven experience managing a Web 2.0 site
•Prior experience designing solutions for a cross-browser, cross-platform user community
•Photoshop and Illustrator experience a plus
Please send resume to Peggy Duvette, Co Director of the Natural Capital Institute
