Part-Time Staff Position with Innovative Environmental Justice Non-Profit
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Global Community Monitor (GCM) is an environmental justice and human rights non-profit organization that empowers industrial communities to recreate a clean, healthy and truly sustainable environment. You may know us by our successful programs - the Bucket Brigade and Refinery Reform Campaign.

 

Global Community Monitor has trained industrial fenceline neighbors in 22 US states and 19 countries through out the world in environmental sampling, media and environmental justice campaigning. Global Community Monitor builds on successful strategies used to hold major corporations accountable in the U.S and internationally.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

TheOffice Assistant is a new, part-time, staff position that will be primarily responsible for providing administrative and program support to the four other staff members, working both in the GCM office (in El Cerrito) as well as from their home or other virtual office. The person in this position will help to design, implement and maintain new and existing office systems. This position, like the others in our growing organization, has significant growth opportunities.

 

The ideal candidate for this position is an independent, self-starter with strong initiative and follow-through skills. We’re seeking a mature, flexible, well-organized individual with a good sense of humor and a commitment to environmental issues who can anticipate problems and efficiently employ their solutions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

·       Database management: maintenance and updates of our internal as well as our web-based databases

·       Mailing coordinator: work with staff and outside vendors to produce all mailers

·       Travel coordinator: make arrangements for office-related travel (domestic and international)

·       Supplies and facilities management: coordinate and maintain the basic needs for all office-related supplies and equipment

·       Events coordinator: assist Program Director and other staff in planning organization’s events

·       Variety of other administrative duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

·       Minimum 1-year of continued, related work experience

·       Self-starter with proven ability to work independently, often with very little supervision

·       Expert organizational skills

·       Proven problem-solving skills

·       Well-versed in use of: Microsoft Office, supporter databases, social networking sites, travel sites

·       Event planning skills

·       Ability to work from home or other offsite location

·       Valid drivers license and automobile insurance

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Nonprofit work experience

·       Virtual office (working from home)

·       Office management experience

·       Background in environmental justice issues

·       Spanish speaking

 

TIME & COMPENSATION:

·       Part time, hourly averaging 10-12 hours per week, with a maximum of 20 hours in any week

·       Pay range $13-15 per hour depends on experience with opportunities for advancement
