About

Position opening: Trade Intern, Winter/Spring 2008

Women Thrive Worldwide (formerly the Women’s Edge Coalition), a dynamic and cutting-edge international women’s organization seeks an energetic person to join its close knit team as the Winter/Spring 2008 Intern in the Global Trade Program.  The Global Trade Program works to ensure that the needs of women living in poverty around the world are addressed through U.S. and international trade policies to enable them to access the economic benefits of global trade.

The primary responsibility of the Trade Intern will be to conduct research and analyze U.S. and multilateral trade policies and their impact on women in developing countries to support the program’s advocacy projects. The Trade Intern will be expected to take on considerable responsibility for a specific project to be selected in conjunction with the Trade Associate.  Day-to-day activities will include participation at briefings, lectures, and special events around Washington, D.C., tracking of pertinent U.S. legislation, and writing of policy briefs for use within the organization and some administrative work.

It is critical that applicants have an interest in international trade and development issues.  While previous experience with international trade and economics would be helpful, it is not necessary.  Applicants should have research experience, preferably on issues related to international women’s issues, development, or economics; very strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to juggle multiple projects and work independently; and an ability to synthesize technical materials.  Rising college seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in a related field strongly preferred.

To apply, please email resume, cover letter and one-page professional writing sample by January 22nd to Lindsey Freeman, Trade Associate, lfreeman AT womenthrive DOT org.  Please be sure to indicate clearly that the application is for the Trade Internship.  Hardcopies can be mailed to: Women Thrive Worldwide, 1825 Connecticut Ave., NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC, 20009. For more information on Women Thrive Worldwide, please visit our website at www.womenthrive.org.
