Peers without frontiers: Youth for the MDGs 

 

‘Peers without frontiers’ is IFM-SEI’s exciting new global peer education project.  We aim to 

establish a network of knowledgeable and confident peer educators in 18 countries across 

the world as well as supporting young people to work together to contribute to the 

achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.   

 

Job Description 

 

Project officer role 

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented person to take on the key role of project 

officer for peers without frontiers, taking the project forward with the Secretary General and 

the volunteer co-ordination team.  The project officer will be responsible for the overall co- 

ordination of ‘Peers without frontiers’.  S/he will be full of energy and ideas and will be 

comfortable taking the lead in a global project.  The project officer will work in close co- 

operation with the Secretary General and the volunteer project co-ordination team to ensure 

the project meets its objectives.   

 

Responsibilities 

 

To manage the day-to-day co-ordination of the project and monitor progress towards 

set project objectives  

 

To maintain regular communication with partner organisations and the co-ordination 

team 

 

To provide regular project updates to the Secretary General and Presidium of IFM- 

SEI 

 

To provide support to volunteers and peer educators in the partner organisations  

 

To co-ordinate logistical arrangements of all project activities together with host 

organisations. 

 

To play an active role in the development and execution of the educational 

programmes of project activities together with the educational team  

 

To oversee the project budget and perform basic bookkeeping tasks 

 

To regularly update the project website 

 

To oversee the development of the peer education and MDG resources 

 

To write the mid-term and final project reports 

 

To identify funds and write grant applications for future funding of the project  

 

To assist with other IFM projects and activities where required 

 

 

Person specification 

 

Essential 

 

Demonstrate commitment to the aims and principles of IFM-SEI 

 

Experience of administrating international projects  

 

Experience of running educational activities (including training and facilitating) 

 

Demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative and to lead a team 

 

Experience of grant application and report writing 

 

Experience of basic budget management 

 

Fluency in spoken and written English 

 

Have good IT and communication skills 

 

Enthusiasm, energy and flexibility 

 

 

 

Desirable 

Previous or current membership of an IFM-SEI member organisation  

Knowledge of French or Spanish 

Educated to degree level  

Experience of Content Management Systems 

Experience of managing Youth in Action and European Youth Foundation projects  

 

Knowledge and experience of international youth organisations 

Knowledge of peer education and children’s rights 

 

 

 

Working Conditions 

 

The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week and will be based in the IFM-SEI office in 

Brussels, Belgium. 

 

Some weekend and evening work will be required and days off will be offered as 

compensation, no financial compensation will be offered for extra hours worked. 

 

Financial Conditions 

 

Fixed-term contract for 11 months (with the possibility to extend the contract if further 

funds are secured). 

 

€1750 gross monthly salary 

 

Meal cheques (approximately 90 - 100 Euros per month) and per diems when 

working outside Belgium will be offered.
